Du reste, ces combinaisons de caractères qui rappellent le principe de formation des caractères chinois, n’existent qu’en fort petit nombre dans les textes hiéroglyphiques.
C. Noms primitifs exprimés par des caractères notés.
76. Une certaine série de caractères sacrés étant susceptibles, en leur qualité d’images d’un objet réel, d’être pris dans leur acception figurative, et en d’autres cas, dans une acception phonétique; quelques-uns même pouvant être employés tantôt comme figuratifs et tantôt comme phonétiques ou symboliques, il devint indispensable d’indiquer d’une manière quelconque un tel changement de nature dans les signes.
On observe, en effet, dans tous les textes hiéroglyphiques et dans ceux qui sont conçus en écriture hiératique ou sacerdotale, que des caractères ordinairement employés comme phonétiques, deviennent figuratifs en certaines occasions. Dans ce dernier cas ils sont toujours affectés des notes <hiero>t:Z1</hiero> ou <hiero>t Z1</hiero>, en hiératique [[File:champfig0054.png]]. Exemples:
