This is a vocabulary-based coursed. Each lesson teaches about 14 words in context, by means of simple, meaningful sentences. These sentences follow specific grammatical patterns, chosen in order to teach the grammar of the language by means of practical examples instead of theoretical explanations.

The vocabulary comes from the Goethe Zertifikat A1 Start Deutsch (pdf file).

The basic structure of each lesson is:

  • Vocabulary - around 14 words, with pronunciation, relevant grammatical information and basic definitions
  • Collocations (optional) - usual combinations of words, using the current vocabulary as well as items from previous lessons.
  • Sentence Patterns - a few simple sentences illustrating an important grammatical topic.
  • Sentences - at least two sentences for each word in the vocabulary, with audio or pronunciation, as well as the translation, hidden but accessible at any time.
  • Exercises - of various types, but always at least one translation exercise (English to German)
  • Drills - while the Exercises require the student to think and solve tasks, the Drills focus on repeating a simple pattern, alternating a specific element in each iteration.
